Do all Search Engines have "crawler robots" (spiders) ?
The major search engines have crawler robots also called spiders. The robots crawl through your website and index other links to your internal pages that they find. When you are submitting URLs, most of them only need the top level index page and they will find the rest from there.
Not all search engines have robot crawlers though. Contrary to popular belief, there are lots of smaller search engines that do not crawl and index every page in a website. They accept a submission in a form on their submit page, and sometimes even have a basic robot visit that page for meta tag info. You need to submit each individual webpage to these because they won't index more on their own.
It's not necessary to submit to the major engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo more than once. You should submit to those manually. Their robots will return frequently to index more of your website. However, if you have a major site update and they're not crawling your site very often, it is a good idea to re-submit so the updates to the ranking and cache may be done sooner. It is not recommended to submit to Google, Bing, and Yahoo with software - use that for the other search engines that need to be submitted to.
Search Engine Sitemaps
It helps to have a Sitemap web page that has links to all your internal webpages on it. It will help the robot crawlers to find all your web pages without missing any. It will also help them to find all your pages faster. Link your sitemap page from your main index page for sure, and even in the footer of your other pages as well.
You can also provide the robots an XML Sitemap. Even if you don't have that many webpages on your website it will give you a better look for SEO purposes (search engine optimization). You can put a link to it on your regular Sitemap page. You can also instruct robots to find your XML sitemap using your robots.txt file. The entry should be on a line by itself and looks like this:

Once you have an XML Sitemap you can also submit it to Google. That's available in their webmaster tools area.
