RSS Feed Marketing / Advertising
What is RSS Feed marketing and why do it ? When you make your content available via RSS - you have the opportunity to also mix in links back to further information on your webpage where you can also mention your offerings (the things that you make your money with).
RSS is a very effective way to notify your subscribers with updates, new product or service announcements, changes to your website, and special offers. Do you want people to view your content ? Of course, and any way to accomplish this is GOOD.
When you make your Feed available to directories and aggregators people can find it and subscribe to it. You can build your subscriber base enormously by making your feed available to people in more places than just on your website.
Website owners will often become a subscriber to be able to display your content on their webpages. The intention should be to add value to their sites by providing quality content and references. The benefit of this to YOU is that you will have links in the feed back to your webpages. This enables you to get traffic and "backlinks" to your webpages. Since the other websites want relevant content coming into their site via the feed, their webpage content will most likely be relevant, which makes the backlink more relevant for YOUR webpage for better search engine ranking purposes.
The coding for the feeds is based on a generic XML data format, which contains data lines broken up into pieces that must be parsed back together by an aggregator or script into a readable output.
EXAMPLE of RSS Feed XML data format:
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<rss version="2.0">

To publish a new article, simply add a new <item>. You can also remove old items if you want to keep your feed "clean".
Before making it available to the public you should validate it, to ensure there are no errors in it. A good website to do this is at www.feedvalidator.org. Their validator will also give suggestions to fix any errors. Just enter the URL to your feed and it will analyze it for you.
You can add this universally used button
to your webpages so people can subscribe to your feed. Link it to the .xml file for your feed (which could also be a .rss or .rdf file extension).
You'll want to market your feed to as many aggregators as possible. This is how people will find it, other than from a link or button on your webpage. Using RSS Feed Submission Software will SAVE you TONS of time when submitting to various aggregators or directories.
