What are Press Releases ?
They are basically condensed versions of articles. The purpose of a business press release would be to announce interesting company news or changes. Subjects such as newly added departments and programs, developments of products and services, sponsoring an event, etc. would be newsworthy items. To get it published you'll want to write it in a professional manner, and make sure it is in a good format. You can do this yourself, just take the time to do it right. When it is distributed it will be on lots of websites and being read by numerous people. What do you want them to think of the writer ?
A good press release format will contain:
- A catchy headline, one short sentence.
- Well written Body text that also contains targeted keywords (more below).
- Company contact info such as address, phone, fax, email address, and URL to the website.
In some cases there will also be a summary area/box you can enter info into. This is a one paragraph summary of the body text, and is sometimes also used in listing descriptions.
Optimizing: This is very important because it will also get indexed by the search engines. Just like optimizing a webpage you'll also want to use some of the same good optimization techniques. Your content when published will end up on it's own webpage at the website displaying the submission.
- (1) The Headline: The headline is excessively important. In most cases your headline will end up to be the <meta> title of the webpage itself, and also included in the webpage URL. This is a significant factor for search engine placement. It will be the text in the link when displayed. It also is important in the ranking of that webpage to show up in the results when searched for. Include KEYWORDS in the headline that you want it to be found by. Don't "stuff" keywords though because you also want it to be "catchy" so that people will click through the link and read it. Make it intriguing and interesting, but also include details.

Three to five paragraphs of content is sufficient and will get a better reading from the approving editors. After all, isn't the reason to get a reader to visit some other webpage anyway ? Mix in keywords but don't over-do it or it will look "spammy" and lose the reader's attention. Keep in mind that the search engines also take into condideration the text content of the webpage for ranking criteria. You can show up in their results for "longtail keywords" too. Write about actual real facts like an event, people, product or service, company goals and plans, upcoming projects, etc. Include the 5 W's to provide effective information - Who, When, What, Why, and Where. You could also include a paragraph with a little introductory type of information about the company.
After writing it, make sure to review and edit it. Make sure your paragraphs are not too long. Write your sentences as short as possible to increase "readability".`
